Charles Ferguson: Author and Former Camp David Historian

Man wearing glasses and a black shirt sitting at a small outdoor table outside a cafe, drinking a cup of coffee or tea. On the table are a glass of latte, a croissant, and a pastry. Behind him is a chalkboard menu and other people sitting at tables.

Charles Ferguson is the author of Presidential Seclusion: The Power of Camp David and a former Camp David Historian and Presidential Chaplain. During his three and a half years serving at the presidential retreat, he worked with 14 presidential libraries and examined archival records, presidential memoirs, and firsthand accounts to uncover the fascinating history of Camp David.

He conducted hundreds of private historical tours for guests of the President, gaining a rare perspective on the secluded mountaintop retreat where presidents, First Families, and world leaders have rested, negotiated, and made history. His engaging storytelling takes readers behind the gates of Camp David and along the private trails where consequential moments in American presidential history unfolded.

His writing has appeared in the United States Naval Institute’s Proceedings, The Presbyterian Outlook, Presbyterians Today, and Duke Divinity School’s Faith & Leadership.
